The term fat or fats refers to a large, diverse group of compounds, typically soluble in organic solvents as well as largely insoluble in water. It has been observed that fats are normally triesters of glycerol in addition to fatty acids. It occurs extensively in organic tissue, in particular in the adipose tissue. The term fat is also applied to solidified (either) animal or vegetable oil.

It also could mean obesity; or in this sense of the term corpulence. It could mean the best or richest portion. It also means unnecessary excess. As an adjective fat implies having much or possibly too much fat or flesh; that is, plump or obese. It may mean full of either fat or oil. In this sense it is a synonym for greasy.
There are many other connotations such as fertile or productive; that is, rich.
