Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was formed only in 1935, but in actuality had been functioning much before this since 1908 under its former name, The Bureau of Investigation. At the time it was under its sixth director J. Edgar Hoover.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is a criminal investigative intelligence agency of the United States of America. It is the investigative branch of the United States Department of Justice. Currently the FBI has jurisdiction over nearly two hundred categories of federal offences. For this very reason the FBI is considered to be for all practical purposes the primary law enforcement agency of the American Government. Its motto is 'Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity' which when made into an acronym is incidentally FBI.

Its current director is Robert Mueller. Its divisions include the FBI Laboratory, the FBI Academy and the Criminal Justice Information Services.
