Remember, if you plan to buy a second hand car, a number of factors come into play at the time of purchase and afterwards. Here are some points to note.
1 most vehicles have the manufacturers bumper to bumper warranties for tree yeas or 3600 miles, four years or 50000miles or five years 60000 miles on the drive train (engine and transmission). The warranties are transferable to buyers who purchase the vehicles second hand.
2 if the warranty has expired you are stuck with paying for repairs and maintenance. Remember that major repairs can be costly.

3 there is always a risk of buying a "junker" (hidden defects with little or no warranty coverage). Always consider having a through vehicle inspection done by a mechanic you trust.
4 consider the reliability of a particular make and model before purchasing.
5 as a buyer of a second hand car you can avoid some of the depreciation costs, which can be up to 40% of the car's value in the first two years. A car, which is a few years old, can be purchased for almost half the original price and may have the latest safety convenience features
Hope these tips will help you

In buying a second hand car, you check out for:

1 make sure you go with a mechanic(if you are not one) so as to check strength and condition of the motor.

2 check when the car was bought and how many people that have used it.

3 Check out for the interior and exterior condition.

4 You must buy it in the open or authorised market.

mostly people who are buying second hand cars is because of most common reason :
A- because they cannot afford a new car
B- or because they are afraid of their new car being stolen
C- lastly because they think second hand cars are easy to be maintained, or are better than new cars in some other way .

Well anyone who is buying a second hand car must first check the whole body of the car that what is the condition of it, is it rusted or not or is it redone from anywhere because if the car has undergone a big accident and then been made again it will reduce the price of the car.. after that once you are satisfied by the external part of the car come to the engine and go for the same checks , look for any replaced parts or anything which is either rusted or made to look new , it is preferably better that if you don't have that much know how of the car you should take a mechanic with you which will check the whole car for you and satisfy you . do also check the chasey and steel printed number in the engine area which has the engine no and the car make model and colour written , also check the mileage of the car and the interior will tell you how well maintained the car is .

These are a few tips which can be used in buying a new car .
