Weight of sheet metal thickness gauges is 41.82 pounds per square foot per inch of thickness and is known as Manufacturer's Standard Gage. Thickness of gauge depends on the material. Lower thickness means higher gauge and we express it in inches. We can also measure the weight by multiplying gauge with thickness. For example 10 gauge steel sheet has 0.1345 inch thickness then the weight of this gauge will be 5.625 pounds per square feet.

Most commonly used sheet metal gauges are 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14 etc. 30 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0157 inch, 28 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0187 inch, 26 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0217 inch, 24 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0276 inch, 22 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0336 inch, 20 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0396 inch, 18 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0516 inch, 16 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0635 inch, 14 Gauge steel sheet has thickness of 0.0785 inch,  etc. There are different types of metal sheet gauges for example carbon steel gauge, galvanized steel gauge, stainless steel gauge etc.
