The molten core of earth helps with the magnetism factor. Some metals found there are magnetic. The Van Allen Belts are the magnetic field that protects us from radiation(along with the Ozone Layer)

The earth's magnetism is mainly caused by it's molten core! When anything is brought to a molten state it creates magnetism! If you go into an iron ore plant the tanks are magnetic! The Sun is a giant magnet, and all planets with a molten cores have a magnetic fields! On Mars the core has cooled off and has a lower level magnetic field!
The magnetic field is made of lines of flux that block some of the harmful rays of the Sun, and without them their could be no life on Earth! These lines of flux go very deep into space, and out the North Pole then in the South Pole!

Yes. The electrical field around Earth and its molten metal core create an electromagnetic field.
