How Many Cricket World Cups Have Been Played So Far Who Were The Finalists Of All Those World Cups?

So far eight Cricket World Cup tournaments have been played and the ninth one is currently going on.  So far Australia has won it three times, West Indies has clinched the title two times, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India have all managed to lift the trophy once each.

The first World Cup final was played in 1975 between Australia and the West Indies and the latter emerged out as the winners.

The second World Cup final was played between the West Indies and England in 1979, where once again the mighty West Indians won it again.

Surprisingly for the third time, India emerged out as the surprise winners in 1983, while the West Indies earned the position of the runner-ups.

The fourth World Cup, which was played for the first time in the subcontinent in 1987 was won by Australia while England for the second time, managed to reach the finals.

The fifth World Cup, which was played in 1992 under dazzling floodlights in Australia, beheld a surprise package in the form of Pakistan, who defeated England in the World Cup final played at the Melbourne cricket ground.

The sixth World Cup, which was again held in the subcontinent in 1996 was won by Sri Lanka while Australia were the runner-ups.

In 1999, the seventh World Cup Final was played between Pakistan and Australia, the latter crushing the former by 8 wickets in a one-sided encounter at Lords, England.

The eighth World Cup, which was held in South Africa in 2003, witnessed India and Australia as the finalists, where Australia managed to clinch the title for the second consecutive time.

The ninth World Cup is still being played and there are strong chances that Australia will complete their hat-trick of lifting the trophy.
