How Does An Air Conditioner Cool Us Better Than An Electric Fan?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

An electric fan sends normal atmospheric air towards us which evaporates the moisture from our body and we feel cool as the moisture such as perspiration takes the heat from our body for evaporation which is also known as latent heat of vaporization. The rate of evaporation depends on the speed of air and also on the amount of moisture present in the air. Hence the cooling effect is limited. On the other hand, the atmospheric air gets cooled to a pre-determined temperature while passing through an air conditioner and then reaches our body.

Hence, the cooling effect is inherent. Note that here also the cooling is effected by the loss of latent heat of vaporization. A refrigerant which is known as Freon, inside the machine evaporates by sudden expansion and takes the latent heat from the air passing through the machine.
