This year was a particularly good year. The Northern Irish Assembly will be re-inaugurated after being in disarray for such a long time. It was closed down after allegations of spying by MI5 and Sinn Fein at the same time! It is claimed that telephone lines had been bugged in various offices.
This weeks local elections showed the electoral political process in full swing for another successful time. It is a great change from the day of the Armalite (the symbol of the IRA-Sinn Fein was a gun and a ballot box).
This week's elections ended with the two main parties gaining and the two peripheral parties losing ground.
The DUP, the Democrat Unionist Party, lead by the almighty himself, the Rev Ian Paisley made a six seat gain and now have thirty six. Sinn Fein have twenty eight. The UUP or Ulster Unionist Party lost nine seats and around down to eighteen seats and the SDLP (Social Democratic Liberal Party) are down to sixteen.
The DUP will supply the First Minister, Sinn Fein the Deputy First Minister. The DUP will have four ministers at the table, Sinn Fein three, the UUP two and SDLP one.
