    Frank Leslie was born on the March 29, 1821 in Suffolk, England. He was a British-US journalist as well as artist.

    His earlier drawings were published in the Illustrated London News. He migrated to the United States in the year 1848. Here he established a variety of newspapers and other publications such as the New York Journal, Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper etc.

    Money wise, his most successful venture was his illustrated sketches from the Civil War battlefields which now possess immense historical worth.

    After Frank Leslie's death, his wife officially changed her name (Miriam Florence Leslie), to Frank Leslie and ably handled her husband's enterprise. She died a rich lady, leaving majority of her estate to the feminist activist, Carrie Chapman Catt.
