My answer is a "Big Yes". The purpose or aim of team building exercises is to bring all the employees together and give them the feelings as if all of them are one unit and group striving hard for some common goal. Companies want to develop a family like atmosphere that's why they arrange such exercises. They want and expect everybody to feel him/her a part of a company and contribute positively.

Aim of team building exercises is to develop mutual understanding among team members and give them a platform where they share new ideas or get a clue about the future firm policies. In-short a firm wants to develop positive feelings about employees.

But if a firm ignores its employee by not inviting him/her in team building exercises rather than giving a positive message a firm will be giving a negative message. That uninvited person may think that s/he is not important for a firm or let's alone for a current project and this thinking will de-moralize him/her.

Even that person will not be able to maintain the previous performance level. Therefore a firm should invite all the employees to the team building exercises provided if they are available and willing to participate in such events.
