Can You Tell Me The Names Of Some Ballet Moves?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are a number of moves in Ballet including the five basic positions. The moves include "Jeté" which is literally "throw" in French, Fish Dive, Arabesque, Pas De Deux, Cabriole, Divertissement, Retiré and demi-pilé meaning bent knees.

The first position involves the person stands with his or her hands folded towards oneself, the second position involves the person standing with legs and hands apart, the third position has one hand folded on the chest and the other extended outwards, the fourth has one foot in front of the other one hand extended and the other raised over the head in an arch. The Grand Jeté has the dancer jumping with legs split and hands raised, Grand Pilé involving both knees bent and hands folded forward, the Arebesque has one leg raised and hands spread out. The Tondue has one leg ahead of the other, one hand raised and one hand stretched out.

Ballet is the main type of dance. This means that if you know the names of ballet moves, you know jazz, modern, tap, and some hip-hop words too! Here are some basic ones...plié, tendu, dégagé, rond de jambe, port de bra, fondu, frappé, retiré, developpé, and battement. Those are the basics, they are usually used together to make the moves you see in the ballet.
