Does A Woman Have To Adopt Her Fiances Kids When They Get Married?
My fiance and I argue about the fact of adopting. I think I would have to adopt his kids when we get married so I have legal rights to them. But my fiance says that only the man has to adopt a woman's kid(s) when they get married. Can you please tell me which one is true? If i have to adopt or if I don't -most of the rights get signed to me through marriage.

Look dear, you sound like a beautiful person. When you marry this man, you have no idea how your relationship is going to progress. Tell your man that the proper thing is to get to know each other even better. Marriage in itself brings changes. How do you know you are going to be able to handle these children. Personalities change, likes and dislikes change. I would give it a good year. Now, once you adopt these children , should your marriage not succeed, you are responsible for support. These are children you chose. In some states, you can leave your birth children out of your will, but a chosen, adopted child, you cannot. I am not trying to discourage you, but since you have questions it is obvious you have doubts. Your intended is being responsible and this is what is needed. He is trying to protect all of you. He can sign papers making you a legal guardian so that you may visit their school, sign papers, and also medical care. Please give it time, your intended is a good man . Stop the disagreements about this matter and tell him you now realize he has the best interest of you all in his heart. Keep arguing and that intended may continue to be an intended. In the meantime after all of this is calm, get some information on step-parents from the web sites and go through it. I am so hoping you all get this together and make a happy healthy home for those babies and yourselves. I am pulling for ya...best wishes

If you want to be their legal mom, and they don't already have one, you have to adopt.
