We used to be best friends. I moved to a different town, and we've disconnected over the last couple of years. She is still extremely important in my life, and we try to have lunch weekly, but usually turns into once a month. Her birthday is fast approaching (she's turning 35) and I have no idea what to get her!

You know her choice and what she needs the most at the current time. Does she like watches or needs one? May be a good perfume is what she wants from all? If she likes plants, may be a good plant and flowers would be of her choice. If she likes watching movies, she might like the series of DVDs. If she likes to read books, she might like to read her favorite writer's creative writing. If she like gold, may be a necklace is the best choice. Choose the option according to her liking. She will definitely like whatever you gift her.

Since you don't see her often instead of getting her something try to take her out for a girls night out spend some time with her and have her pick something that she likes.. But I think the best B-day gift is being with her...
