How Deep Do You Need To Dig To Put Up A Chain Link Fence?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Chain link fences are durable and are known to provide excellent security. Since they do not block the view, they are a good option for keeping an eye on small children and pets. Use a posthole digger or power auger to dig the post holes.

Postholes for terminal posts are usually 8 inches in diameter and about 18 to 30 inches deep. Holes for line post are 6 inches in diameter and 18-24 inches deep depending on the fence height and conditions of the soil. Depending on the condition of the soil and drainage, you may have to add extra layer of gravel on the bottom of the hole, few inches deep. Adjust the height of every post so that it measures 45" from the soil to the top.
