Is There A Consensus On Morality?

How do people treat morality?

Answer Question

There has always been a debate on what acts are moral and what are immoral. When states try to make certain things illegal by saying that they should be banned because they are immoral, there comes a question on immoral according to whose standards? Some say that morality should be according the standards of an ordinary man. If he thinks that something is immoral then it is. But there has never been a consensus on morality on a lot of issues. Is abortion moral? Killing of a life would be against many religions but a lot of feminists would say that it is the right of every woman to decide what she wants to do with her body.

Capital punishment is considered as moral in some societies because it prevents the scale of future murders. Killing one person to save the lives of another has always been at debate. What about prostitution? It is argued that it is immoral and should be banned. Some say that to hinder someone's freedom of expression would be immoral and so banning prostitution would be immoral.
