Answer Question

Genealogically, the word karate literally means empty hand in the Japanese language. It is defined as a form of marital art or a method of unarmed fight which was developed on island of Okinawa, which located off the coast of Japan. It was brought to China in the sixth century.

It is a style of martial arts which features a series of kicks and punches (or strikes) which an attacker lands on his or her opponent using just his or her bare hands (and no weapons). Kung fu is a modern-day form of marital art which originated in China.

There are many styles and sub-styles of karate. Some of the most popular styles and sub-styles of karate are shotokan, shorin ryu, kyokushin ryu and ashihara karate. While some of these styles and sub-styles stress of the use of power and strength, there are some other styles and sub-styles of karate which emphasise on the use of precision and speed.

By the vary nature of the words used (Chinese) and (Karate) we have two separate items (apples and oranges).

Chinese is a very different language than Japanese (spanish vs. Italian: Same but different).

The word defining karate is from kara meaning "empty" and te meaning "hand" evolved from Chinese fist/hand.

Same with Korean Karate = no such animals in the woods. The korean word for Tae Kwon Do indicates Way of the hand and foot. Or close to it.

There are only so many ways one may punch, strike, block, or kick with the human body and every system incorporates them to some degree. Korean hands 30%, feet 70%
      Japan/Okinawa hands 50%  feet 50%

Philosophy of the head master dictates how the hand, feet, or other body parts will be used to defend or attack.

There is no Chinese Karate, there is no Korean Karate....there is only Japanese or Okinawan Karate.

There is NO Japanese Tae Kwon Do only Korean.

Why they are both "fruit", one is apple the other and orange.
