What Does Mean For Modem?

A Modem is a very important component of Computers and several other electronic devices. The name Modem itself is the shortened form of "Modulator-Demodulator". This word itself explains the function of the Modem.

It is basically a device which is used for modulation and demodulation purpose. It modulates the analog signal in which information is coded in digital form. Then it demodulates this same signal into a digital form so that information is transmitted and is in understandable form.

The most common use of Modems these days is in computers where a voice band modem is used. These modems convert the binary information into sound that is transmitted over telephone lines and when this sound is received on the other end, it is again decoded back into binary information through another modem installed on the receiving end.
