Ramesses, one of the greatest Egyptian pharaohs was born in 1302 BC. He was appointed Prince regent by his father at the tender age of fourteen and had taken the reign in early 20s. In a country where conspiracy for the throne was the order of the day, he was among the pharaohs who ruled for approximately sixty-six years.

He had accomplished many great things in the period of his rule and it is said that it was he who thrashed the pirates of the Sherden Sea who were consistently creating havoc for the vessels on the Mediterranean coast in Egypt. He also led several expeditions to the lands situated in the north which is now modern Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

The king had lived a long life, though there are some contradictions, but all experts believe that he must have lived more that ninety years.
