War historically took away the men. With WWI Many men not only left for war but many never came back. The country during these times needed to turn to women to fill the positions of the men that were sent to war. As with giving children exposure for self-direction, once exposure to the reality of what life is to what one is told is realized. It is very difficult to remove the knowledge and thus the freedom that the knowledge brings to the former controlled class. This was a big part of this movement. While most likely women as blacks obtained this right by a matter of consciousness, the war spend the process to the ultimate conclusion.
