    To add fractions, you need to have a common denominator, so your first step is to convert to a common denominator.  4 is the LCM for the 2 fractions, so:
    1. 1/4x = 1/4x
    2. 5/2x = 10/4x
    Now add the fractions:
    3. 1/4x + 10/4x = 11/4X
    So you now have 11/4X = 22. Solve for X by multiplying both sides by 4/11 (or divide each side by 11/4)
    4. 4/11*11/4X = 4/11*22
    X = 8
