How Does The Serum Affect The Disease Of Diphtheria?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Diphtheria, derived from the Greek word dipthera meaning a 'pair of leather scrolls', is the name of a disease of the upper respiratory tract. The main characteristics of this kind of illness are sore throat, low fever, a pseudo membrane developing on the tonsils or the nose. A less intense form of diphtheria may be restricted to the skin. The source of this disease is a bacteria called as corynebacterium.

The disease can still be managed, but sometimes lymph nodes in the neck swell up and make swallowing tough. It can even lead to a rise in the heartbeat and result in a cardiac arrest. The diphtheria anti toxin does not really affect the toxin which is already bonded to the tissue. Antibiotics are used for patients to eradicate the bacteria cells.
