Why Are Most Of The Chefs Men When The Ones Who Always Prepare Our Meals Are Our Moms?

To some extent the answer is in the question: women traditionally have been kept busy running their homes, looking after their children etc, and even today it's often difficult for a woman to take on a job requiring a huge commitment outside the home. A woman may be a skilled cook, but a restaurant chef works very long, unsocial hours, and you often find a lack of women in such jobs.

There are other resons too. Working in a hotel or restaurant kitchen is extremely hard work physically, and (oddly, considering that the general public tend to see cooking as "women's work") you often get a very macho culture, sometimes one that is actually hostile to women. Some people also take the (perhaps unfair) view that being a top chef is largely about ego, bullying and showing off, and that you find more men in professions which encouarage these.

Whatever the reason, times are changing and more women are working as chefs these days. Top UK chef Gordon Ramsay is well known for trying to encourage more women into the profession, and he isn't alone in this.

Yes I agree, more women are becoming chefs:  my daughter for one and I am a trainee chef.  Many more women however, are starting to get involved and my college also has quite a lot of females now and yes you've guessed it, my man is a chef...... pity he isnt like Gordon though.
