    Goa is the second smallest state in area-wise in India, after Delhi and in terms of population, the fourth smallest. Panaji (Panjim) is the capital of Goa while Vasco-da-Gama (Vasco) the state's largest city.

    Goa is a major tourist destination and is internationally famous for its beaches. It receives hordes of both foreign and domestic tourist every year and is well known among European travelers as a popular hotspot. It is also acclaimed for its world heritage architecture. The Bom Jesus Basilica is an illustrious example of this. It also prides itself in its rich diverse flora and fauna. It is a gastronomical delight.

    There are numerous historic places and the area still retains a lot of its Portuguese influence. Tourism is the backbone of the state's economy and the two major tourist seasons are winter and summer.  Some of the more popular celebrations in Goa include are Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter Sunday and the Carnival.
