A wildlife conservation officer has many duties. Their job is to monitor and care for wild animals of all kinds. One of their major duties is enforcing the hunting laws. Each year there is a hunting season for various animals such as bear, moose, elk and deer. You must have a hunting license in order to participate in seasonal hunting, and there is a legal limit on the number of animals you can kill. Wildlife conservation officers patrol hunting areas to make sure that all hunters have appropriate licenses and that they have not exceeded their limit in the animals they kill. To be caught over the legal limit or not having a license will result in a very costly fine and the animals will be confiscated. These officers also enforce fishing licensing and fish limits, and bird limits like ducks and pheasants. Another duty of a wildlife conservation officer is to inspect herds of wild animals for signs of disease. Animals that have contagious diseases like brucellosis must be killed to avoid infecting the rest of the herd. These officers perform essential duties in protecting our natural wildlife populations.
