What Is The Probability Of Winning In A 6/49 Lotto?

Answer Question

By 6/49 lotto, I guess you mean that there are 49 numbers in total in a pool, from which you draw 6 randomly without replacing the numbers drawn.  The odds for this is simply 49 x 48 x 47 x 46 x 45 x 44 = 10068347520 or roughly one in 10 million.  This is because each number drawn out improves the chance of your number being drawn (assuming it wasn't the actual number picked out).  If the numbers were replaced, and you are allowed to pick the same number more than once, than the odds are slightly higer at 49^6 (to the sixth power), which is about one in 13.8 million.  The best odds are not really in lotto, but that's probably the attraction as well

If the the odds of winning is 1 in 10 million, then i could just wait the pot money to reach 11 million or more and buy all the combinations assuming each combination cost $1 and i would surely gain 1 million.

      10 million comb. x $1= $10 million

      $11 million-$10 million= 1 million profit. :-)
