Constipation can be an absolute nightmare and it is often painful to relieve the bowels as the stools are usually hardened. It tends to occur when there is a change in your diet and often it depends upon how much fibre you eat and exercise could also play a part in it. If you take part in regular exercise it really does help with bowel movements and it can loosen up the stools and push them to help them out. Pregnancy can also affect the condition as the hormones which are released often slow down the bowel movements.

In order to eliminate the condition, there are various over the counter medicines you can buy which help to loosen the stools and it makes them easier to pass through. They also act as a laxative and so these medicines are usually the best ones to go for. Naturally, eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is the best way to make your bowel movements more regular. Fibre is by far the best thing that will help. If you are still having problems you really should consult your doctor just to check that there is no underlying cause for the problem.

Although this maybe an embarrasing subject for some, I suggest that you see your doctor if it has become painful. There may be something seriously wrong and you do not want to risk something going out of control when it could have been prevented.
