Always tie a horse with a quick release knot! There is a real important reason for this. The smallest thing can "spook" or frighten a horse and the ability to release the animal in case of emergency should be available to anyone nearby. A break away halter is a very worthwhile investment to you and to your horse. If a horse is in real trouble and no one can get near him, the pressure from his thrashing will trigger the release on the halter. This ensures that your horse, the surrounding property and people are not damaged or injured.

There are special clamps that my mom uses when she makes her own leads that release in a hurry if pulled hard. She always uses a quick release knot no matter what when she ties them. She trained her last horse to stand where she left it and never tied him though. There are also break away halters.

You should never use a tight knot in case you need a quick release. Loop the first step in tying a regular knot, but on the second cross, leave a loop, then you have it secure, but can pull on the rope dangling form the loop and untie it quickly.

You MUST tie a loose knot because if the horse is spooked, or if something charges at it, it should be able to run away.

You should always tie a slip knot that can be released quickly if the horse should panic, horses have had their necks broken in the past when tied too securely. I always tie a horse to a piece of bale twine which is knotted on the post/rail/ring so that it will be the first thing to break under extreme pressure. Hope this helps.

Moderately tight, yes, but if it is too tight an the horse gets a fright and he tries to run away he will really hurt his head. But if it's too lose he will just get free

Tie a slip knot so you can get them loose if they freak. Also remember to be fair and not leave them tied there long. And if you are in a secure pen when you tie them i would leave it pretty loose.

You have to tie a quick release knot so that if the horse spooks you can pull the end and it will release :) It has saved my horse many times

Well,it depends on how tame the horse is. If it's tame you don't really have to if it is not tame you REALLY should!

You must tie a loose knot and preferably on a piece of sting just in case when he pulls back the knot will be released and he wont get injured.
