Though these both seem alike but the major difference is regarding the source code of these operating systems. The source code of the Linux can be compiled by the users as it is an open source kind of software while on the other hand this is not possible with the UNIX source code.

There are so many differences between LINUX and UNIX. Linux means Like-UNIX.  Linux was created with UNIX as its base. UNIX is only compatible with mainframe computers whereas LINUX can also be used by x86 personal computers. In UNIX everything is a file but in Linux there are other applications as well. Linux is UNIX but faster, facilitated and advance than it and that why it is Like-Unix.
