A friend of mine drenched her hair in rubbing alcohol and then covered her HAIR not head, tightly with a plastic bag and smothered them.i was there and though it kinda dried her hair out,but it wasn't anything that some extra conditioner didn't fix right away.i guess the alcohol worked really good for her maybe for you too.she left the bag on for like an hour.

well as far as the odor leaving the hair afterward,you've got nothing to worry about.it will wash away with no problem.just make sure to plastic bag is tight around the hairline.
