Why Do The Planets Revolve Around The Sun?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Because of the spin of the gas and dust cloud that the planets formed out of billions of years ago.

At first this cloud was very large and had only a slight rotation just due to random motion. As it contracted due to gravity of the central mass that was to become our sun it spun faster. In time the only parts of the cloud that remained was the parts that was rotating at a speed that was balanced against the gravity of the sun.

At this point these areas clumped together and gradually formed bigger chunks and then the planets them selves.
