What Does The Metric Prefix 'N' Stand For?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The prefix 'n' stands for nano and the factor that can be denoted by the use of this prefix is 10‾9. As it is said that it is used in the metric or SI system, it is mostly used as a prefix to denote the units of time and length. But this use of the symbol is mostly found in computer systems and other electronic devices and seldom can you find its use to describe something else.

The word has got the acceptance to be used as an international system of units in the year 1960 and can trace its origin in the Greek term 'vάvoc'. The meaning it conveys is that of something that is dwarf. As we all know that the word is used as a unit that describes a very small amount of something, the name itself is quite justified.
