What Is The Meaning Of Yin And Yang?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The entire concept of Yin and yang is based in ancient Chinese mythology. In simple terms its represents the opposite sides of everything present in the broader universe. The aim of the yin and the yang is depict the opposite yet complementary forces that are found in everything that surrounds us.

Yin in Chinese literally means 'shady place', cloudy, overcast and represents the feminine or the dark and passive force. It is symbolized using fire. Yang which in Chinese means 'sunny, sunshine' represents the masculine or the brighter and active force and is symbolized using water.

The circular of the symbol also indicates that there is a continuous flow between the two energies; which means that they are hardly ever static and that it is impossible that one exists without the other. At the same time this also means that one can transform into the other at any given point. The small dots in the centre also serve a purpose and indicate that there will always be traces of one element within the other.
