    The word disintegrative is defined as something that tends to cause something to disintegrate. To disintegrate means to break up or split into constituent elements or parts. The words or phrases which are synonymous with the word disintegrative are to fall to pieces, to fall apart, to crumble, to break up, to go to wrack and ruin, to collapse, to split up and to fragment.

    The most common term associated with the word disintegrative is childhood disintegrative disorder. It is defined as one of the pervasive development disorders (abbreviated as PDD). It is characterised by the marked regression shown by the child in a variety of skills. The skills in which the child is likely to regress include language skills, social skills, adaptive behaviour, play, lack of control over the bowel movement, lack of bladder control and motor skills.

    This disorder is commonly seen in children who are over the age of two years but less than ten years of age. It is usually developed after a gap of between two and ten years of development that appears to be normal.
