The only time that Atomic weapons have been used in a war was in World War 2.
The first was on the 6th of August 1945 where a uranium based fission bomb called "Little Boy" was dropped on the city of Hiroshima.
The second was on the 9th of August 1945 and was a plutonium based fission bomb called "Fat Man" which was dropped on the city of Nagasaki.
Both of these weapons used different methods of initiating a nuclear reaction. The yield of these bombs were between 10 to 20 kilotons for the first and around 20 kilotons for the second.
