What Is The Oldest Newspaper Still In Publication?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The world's oldest newspaper still in publication to this day is the Berrow's Worcester Journal, a weekly paper printed in the United Kingdom. The Berrow's Worcester Journal was established in 1690, when it was published on an irregular basis, after freedom of the press was introduced in Britain. The paper first focused on national and world news, especially that which pertained to wars and high politics. At this time, the paper was five pages in length.

The paper was taken over by Harvey Berrow during the first half of the eighteenth century. The paper went through several changes in ownership over the course of its 300 year old history and since 1996, it is owned by Newsquest Media Group. The paper's total distribution stands at around 47,000 copies per week. Over 90% of the copies are distributed to readers free of charge. The journal currently focuses on local news.
