OIC stands for Organization of Islamic Conference.

OIC was established in September 1969 in Rabat (Morocco).
History and Objective:
The Organization of Islamic Conference was established by the Heads of Islamic countries in their first summit conference held in Rabat from 22nd to 25th September, 1969. The objectives of OIC include promotion of political, scientific, cultural and economic cooperation among member states, protection of holy places and strengthening of Islamic solidarity. The OIC holds its summit meetings at regular intervals of three to four years according to the circumstances. The OIC is strengthening every year and Muslims countries of the world are stressing for collective efforts for the betterment of its member states. So far the following meetings of OIC have been held.
• First meeting, Rabat (Morocco) September 1969.
• Second meeting, Lahore (Pakistan) in February 1974.
• Third meeting, Mecca (S. Arabia) in January 1981.
• Fourth meeting, Casablanca (Morocco) in January 1984.
• Fifth meeting, Kuwait in January 1987.
• Sixth meeting, Dakar (Senegal) in 1990.
• Seventh meeting, Casablanca (Morocco) in 1994.
• Eighth meeting, Tehran (Iran) in 1997.
• Ninth meeting, Doha (Qatar) in 2000.
• Tenth meeting, Putrajaya (Malaysia) in 2003.
Three extra-ordinary meeting had been held in addition to these meetings.
