Many of us initially wondered, when rhytidectomy first was being used, as to how a face-lift was possible. Removing the wrinkles, while sounding like the magic solution to slowing the aging process, seemed too good to be true. However, it has been done, and by now done countless number of times the world over, and the science behind the procedure is no longer secret. It never was too complicated in the first place.
When we are young in this world, our skin is still fresh, and has not yet been assaulted by the hundreds of things that adults face every day. As we grow older, the exposure to the elements daily, the heat, the dust, as well as gravity has its effect on the skin. Gravity especially has a very large impact in our lives. From enabling us to stand and not float away to causing wrinkles, it has a big impact on our lives. It is gravity that pulls the skin out, causing it to fold up, and exist in flaps.
What rhytidectomy does is it pulls the skin back to its original position. This it does by relaying, reshaping, and smoothening the wrinkled and droopy skin, thereby ensuring that all of it is evenly spread out.
