Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It was in between the later half of the nineteenth century and the earlier half of the twentieth century that the popularity of sterling silver started gaining momentum in the United States and in some European countries.  As a matter of fact, the demand for sterling silver increased to such an extent that this very period marked the introduction of many sterling silver companies.

Specially for crockery, sterling silver became a symbol of class and elegance.  Not only just for silverware crockery but the demand of sterling silver in the business world also increased specially in terms of page clips, mechanical pencils, calling card boxes and cigarette cases.  However the demand for sterling silver decreased after the second World War as indigence forced people to accommodate to a simpler lifestyle and use simple things instead of luxuries like sterling silver, which could only be afforded by the elite but not the masses.
