It's very easy to think that a balanced diet is difficult to achieve, but in fact it can be quite straightforward. First cut out fats, white bread, crisps, sweets, fried food and start all over again ! Eating oily fish such as salmon, herrings, trout or mackerel two to three times a week is the most important thing that you can do for your heart. Next, try to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables, since these provide a protective cover for your heart. Instead of having junk food, a banana (or two) can be as filling, provides zinc and potassium and helps your heart ! Think of fruit as nature's junk food because it is so quick and can be eaten on the go.
Junk food tends to over stimulate the release of blood sugar within the body. So replace with foods such as wholegrain bread and a healthy filling. For example eating a granary sandwich with salmon provides a much more controlled blood sugar level than a beefburger. It may take your mind some time to get used to having a banana and apple instead of French fries, but not only is this healthier but you should feel better if you plump for healthier options !
