When Was West Bromwich Albion Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

West Bromwich Albion Football Club was founded in 1878 by workers from the Salters Spring Works in West Bromwich.
The club was one of the original twelve founding members of the Football League which was formed in 1888.

The club has several nicknames including West Brom, The Baggies and The Throstles. There are a number of theories surrounding the origin of the name 'baggies' but 'throstle' almost certainly takes it's name from a song thrush bird or throstle that was kept in a cage in the local pub where they players used to change for matches. The throstle became something of a mascot.

West Bromwich Albion have enjoyed some great success as a club. They have won the FA cup five times and won the League once.

Sadly this success has not been exhibited for some time now. The club was relegated from the Premiership in the 2005/06 season and currently resides in the Championship division.
