A ferrite device is basically an electrical device, the main principle of function of which is based on the usage of ferrites in a powdered, compressed state, using their ferrimagnestism and high electrical resistance that makes eddy-current losses very low at a high temperature. In simpler words, a ferrite device is that, the principle of function of which is based on the usage and characteristics of ferrites, which are basically magnetic oxides.

Ferrite devices can be classified into two classes, depending on if the ferrite is magnetically soft or hard. It is the soft ferrites which are used in microwaves. The reason for this is that the electrical resistivity of soft ferrites is generally 106-1011 times to that of metals, and ferrite parts possess much lower eddy current losses which enable them to be used at frequencies which are higher than 10 kHz.
