Depending on the pageant system - the cost can vary.  If your child is competing in a small, local pageant, the cost could be anywhere from 0-100.  If your child is going to compete in a state pageant, it can cost anywhere from 80-400.  If you are entering your child in a national pageant (which I HIGHLY suggest you do not do without a LOT of experience), it could cost anywhere from $200 to $1000.  These are ONLY the fees of the pageant.
I highly suggest that no child enter a pageant without research of the system.  This will save the family a lot of time and money.  Spend a few dollars and go watch the pageant beforehand so that you are totally familiar with the pageant and what is expected from the child/parent.

Children's Beauty Pageant has become a thriving industry. The parents have to spend a lot on their children in order to ensure that they are worthy contestants of the pageant. A lot of costs are involved here which includes Pageant entry fee that varies from $25 - $500, clothes, makeup, trainer fee etc. All in all in order to make a good show a parent would have to spend $100,000 on the child. The price usually adds up to about $1,000. It can be more when you give the child training or take photos to submit. It also depends on entry price and the type of pageant.

Depending on the pageant, the entry fee in Indiana would cost anywhere between 0 - 400.  It would depend on whether it was a small town pageant, preliminary pageant or a state pageant.
After being involved in the pageant industry for over 20 yrs, I have never seen anyone spend $100,000 on one child for a beauty pageant.  (as stated in the previous answer post)
To be successful in a pageant (like any other type of competition/sport), wardrobe, fees, traveling, coaching and other expenses can add up, however, the number above is very exaggerated.
