Which Famous Writers Come From Normandy?

    Normandy boasts many writers including French language writers, English writers and Latin writers.  One very famous French writer, connected with Normandy, is Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont.  A resident of the Nothern part of Normandy Rouen, her first work, le Triomphe de la Verite (Triumph of Truth) was published in 1748.  Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont is perhaps best known for her rendition of the famous fairytale "Beauty and the Beast".  Although not the original writer of the story, Leprince de Beaumont revised the original story and, today, she is often recognised as the author.  Another famous Normandy writer was Pierre Corneille.  Born in Rouen in the sixteen hundreds,  Corneille was a French tragedian and one of the great French dramatists.  Pierre Cornielle is often said to be "the founder of French tradgedy" and often called "the great Cornielle".  Pierre Corneille's youger brother, Thomas Cornielle, also of Rouen, also became a famous French dramatist and poet.
