What Is Glue Made From?

Glue is a compound that sticks or bonds two items together. Glue may be able to be made from natural sources or synthetically. Early glues were animal glues made by blending animal products like the use of buffalo hooves. Native Americans used fat as an adhesive. During the times of Babylonia, tar-like glue was used for gluing statues. Also, Egypt was one of the most prominent users of adhesives. Today there are four main types of glue; 1) Natural Glue: These are based on natural resin (from vegetables) or from animal skin. 2) Synthetic Glues: Glues like thermosetting glues. 3) Hot Glues: Applied hot and allowed to harden as they cool. These adhesives have become popular for crafts because of their ease of use. 4) Reactive Glues: Glues that react with the surface they are sticking to. Often used to reduce the loosening of bolts and screws etc.
