What Defines An Aryan?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The word Aryan came to the attention of the World before World War II, When Adolf Hitler claimed that Nordic Aryans, such as himself, belonged to a race that was far more superior than other races, especially Jews. Hitler propagated this fact to gain power and domination over his nation and several others.

One might find it surprising that in truth the concept of 'aryan' first originated in Ancient India. Many think it has a racist connotation but it is not so. Aryan comes from 'arya', a word of Sanskrit origin that means admirable, exceptional, respectable or master, companion. It precedes ones name like 'Sir'.

The word Aryan can also mean Indo-Iranian, speaker of any Indo-European tongue.  Moreover, neither of these meanings are in technical use anymore.
