    Sherlock Holmes was a character created by writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in a series of stories published in periodicals and books in Victorian England. He was a great detective who, with the help of his friend Watson, never left a case unsolved.

      He was a fictional amateur detective of great skill, in a series of books by Arthur Conan Doyle, who also created the 'Lost World' of Professor Challenger, long before Michael Crichton got in on the act.
