It was October 13, 1984 when Indira Gandhi's own two Sikh body guards named Satwant Singh and Beant Singh assassinated her in the garden of the prime minister's place of residence situated in Safdarjung Road, in New Delhi.  The apparent reason behind the assassination was the spread of Militancy by Bhindranwale's group.
The situation was creating havoc due to which she gave a nod to Army to rock Golden Temple to flush Bhindranwale and his accomplice from the temple from June 3, 1984. It is said to be a controversial decision to an attack on Golden temple that had caused the loss of 20,000 innocent Sikhs. She was shot dead by her own guards with their machine pistols. While she was taken to hospital in her official car, she died on the way.
