How Can I Avoid Streaking On Larger Areas When Etching Glass?

We are sticking stars etc to the glass and then spreading etching cream on the glass. The etched surface always has streaks in it. We clean the glass very carefully. Is there a better way to do this?

I think I now understand this problem.  The etching cream has the active acid ingredient suspended in small particles.  When each particle touches the glass it creates a small hole giving the etched look.  If the cream is moved after the particles have made contact with the glass, instead of a simple round spot, each particle will create a line resulting in the smeared look.  I have to be careful not to brush or cause the cream to slide on the glass after it has made contact to avoid the smeared look.

When you are etching glass you can clean the streaks on the glass with  glass cleaner or a solution provided in the kit.
Further for removing  etching cream use a paintbrush.  Downward strokes make the
cleaning of glass easy.Further spraying and cleaning can make it better. When applying the cream try to cover it so that less streaks will appear.
