Jimmy Carter was a deeply religious individual who was influenced by and committed to Christianity from a very age in life. He has also been a Sunday School teacher throughout his lifetime. He has claimed that as President of the United States he prayed several times a day. He held that Jesus Christ had been the driving force and mainstay of his life. It is believed that most of Jimmy Carter's humanitarian work and his dedication to the cause of Human Rights stems from his Christian if not very human beliefs.
His foreign policy issues regarding the resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict and his trying to avoid violence when the Shah was removed from power or taking a soft stance on the American Embassy being attacked are partly due to his religious sentiments and Christian beliefs.

President Jimmy Carter was a religious man, a member of a Southern Baptist Church where they believe that a person "must be born again in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven" as said in the Bible. To be "born again" means to them that a person must believe that Jesus was the Messiah who taught about God and Heaven and then was crucified for his teaching that He was God's "only begotten son" whose teachings were different from the governments about God. And, they believe that just as a person was born from his mother's womb, that they must, in a sense, be born in their faith in Jesus and be baptized to be saved from the well known place that is the opposite of Heaven. (On Helium, I can't say the "H" word). After his election, President Jimmy Carter said that "I've been born again" and have been a Sunday School teacher. That comment of his personal faith caused many jokes on the TV Talk Shows, news comics, jokesters everywhere. He lived his Christian faith and the love as taught by Jesus. He was never a hypocrite regarding his Christianity as many elected Republicans like Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and others who have used their so-called Christian faith just to get votes.
