This Question is Answered

I Am A College Graduate With A Lingering DUI From Over 2 Years Ago. Since Finishing College I Have Become More Interested In Law Enforcement. I Was Wandering What I Have To Do To Become A Police Officer In North Carolina?

I was told that I would not be eligible for 3 years or 5 years or even 10 years if at all. It was a stupid mistake that I have learned from and want to start on this new journey into Law Enforcement.

It depends on the Dept. You apply to.  Different departments have different rules regarding DUI's.  It's not a state rule.  Some will never accept you with a DUI but others may after some time passes.  I would say the average is 3 -5  years.  2 years is probably too a short time for any department.

The best way to find out is look at the individual police department's web site.  They should have a section for Employment and it should list disqualifications to apply... Such as listed here
